International Conference «Lost Landscapes, Rediscovered Landscapes» – A Review

🎬 The international conference “Lost Landscapes, Rediscovered Landscapes. Rediscovering the Italian Territory in Silent Cinema” comes to a close today, but the resonance of this extraordinary international experience will continue to echo for a long time.

From April 10 to 12, 2025, the international conference of the RevIS project – Revisualizing Italian Silentscapes 1896–1922 – brought to life three iconic venues of Parisian film culture: the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC), the Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé, and the Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA), turning them into spaces of dialogue between research, archives, and visual memory.

📍 Researchers, archivists, restorers, curators from all over Europe shared fresh perspectives on the Italian landscape in silent cinema — exploring reinvented cities, transformed natural settings, visual mythologies, and precious archival materials.

✨ One of the key moments was the official launch of the platform https://app.silentscapes.eu/, a collaborative digital database that collects and maps Italy’s cinematic landscapes from the late 19th to the early 20th century — a valuable, fully active and accessible tool for future research and heritage enhancement.

🎞️ Adding to the experience were the exclusive evening screenings of the restorations of Saffo (1918), Polidor e la Gioconda (1914), and Une idylle romaine (1908).

🤝 The conference marked the end of an important phase, but also the beginning of new connections, international collaborations, and research trajectories.

📸 Here are some of the most meaningful snapshots: moments of exchange, faces, and shared visions.
